No evidence was found by the scientists to the expectorant function. Its function as an emollient is yet to be evaluated.

Description:
This is a biennial herb with coarsely hairy stems and leaves. It grows about 1-3 feet. It is normally found in waste places and roadsides. Dainty purplish blue flowers appear late May-October. |
Safety:
Alkanet may cause cancer if taken internally over a long period of time. |
