Seed: Expectorant, emollient, mild laxative
Root: Anti-inflammatory
Seed: This herb is useful for dry stool or mild constipation. It can also be used either internally or
externally to help wounds heal.
Root: This herb is used for lung heat conditions when there is both phlegm and dryness. It helps generate fluids evaporated from heat conditions, and aids expectoration. It is helpful for toxicity manifested by inflammation, pus, sores, carbuncles, and especially breast abscesses. It can be used either externally or internally as needed.

Safety:
Trichosanthes seed should not be used when there is diarrhea or when there is no heat.
Trichosanthes root should not be used by pregnant women, those without heat, or those with diarrhea.
