Anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, anticancer, expectorant, demulcent
Helps circulate the lung qi for tight or painful chest obstruction, promotes bowel movement by relaxing and lubricating the intestines. Useful for hot, difficult-to-expectorate phlegm, possibly accompanied with a stifling sensation in the chest (Stagnant lung qi).
It is also used for swollen glands, boils and carbuncles, and lung and breast abscesses. More recently Chinese herbalists have been using this herb successfully for high blood lipid levels and hypertension.

Description:
Various parts of this herb are used for different purposes. The fruit and seed are very similar. However, the seed has more strength for lubricating the intestines, transforming phlegm, and dissolving nodules. The peel of the fruit is more effective in treating the stomach and aiding the circulation of qi.

Safety:
Trichosanthes fruit should not be used by those with coldness and dampness, especially when there is spleen deficiency.
