Anti-inflammatory, expectorant, demulcent

Chinese herbalists consider this as one of the herbs with a rising qi, meaning that it is used in formulas to direct the activity of other herbs to the upper part of the body. It can be used to quell cough, clear phlegm, and treat the common cold, influenza, bronchitis, and pulmonary tuberculosis.
