Alternative Therapies - Female

Aromatherapy

Several essential oils are useful individually or as in combination in infertility treatments. A clary sage oil massage is applied directly upon the ovarian axis to restore low estrogen levels. Rosemary, tea tree, lavender and other anti-infective oils are useful in the abdominal massage to treat pelvic infection leading to inflamed or blocked reproductive tubes.

Use the following combination in a vegetable oil base once per day before the color therapy and to massage the lower part of the body:
bulletCinnamon 5%
bulletClove 5%
bulletOnion 2%
bulletGarlic 2%

A practitioner may recommend relaxing essential oils of lavender, geranium, or rosemary to relieve stress and tension. Rose and lemon balm are believed to have a particular affinity with female sex organs and are especially useful for stress-related conditions. Cinnamon, peppermint, and ginger oils act as tonics, warming the body and increasing circulation to all organs. They may be massaged in a carrier oil, added to the bath or inhaled.

Neroli or lavender alleviate insomnia. Sage eases tension and depression and balances hormones. Thyme alleviates insomnia and improves circulation. Basil alleviates fatigue. Chamomile and lavender in combination improve relaxation and calm nerves. Lavender or peppermint is useful to ease headaches.

For anxiety or nervous tension, use the following essential oils:
bulletBergamot
bulletCamphor
bulletCypress
bulletJasmine
bulletLavender
bulletMelissa
bulletPatchouli

For insomnia, these and other oils may be useful:
bulletBasil
bulletMarjoram
bulletRose
bulletSandalwood

You may inhale the vapors from these oils as they rise from a bowl of water, or mix them in a base oil and use in massage. You can also wear them as perfume or mix it in your bath water.

Aromatherapy in Stress Management

Autogenic Training

This method of deep relaxation allows the body and mind to rest and restore themselves to health. "Emotional discharges" sometimes happen, during which you briefly re-experience repressed memories or emotions. They are considered part of the healing process.

Autogenics combines controlled breathing, hypnotherapy, and positive thinking. It places a heavy emphasis on self-belief and self-determination. It is an excellent technique to attain deep relaxation.

Our thoughts are powerful. Studies have shown that even our expectations or doubts (negative thoughts) of how good a parent we will be can influence fertility. Women who have doubts about their ability to be good mothers have more difficulty getting pregnant than those who can imagine themselves as good mothers.
