Cardiomyopathy

Common Sense Recommendations for Cardiomyopathy

Eat a well balanced diet that's high in whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

Control the intake of salt and water

Check your blood pressure daily and get treatment if it is high.

Monitor your weight. Manage your weight.

Avoid excess consumption of alcohol. Alcohol depletes the body of nutrients. It is toxic on the heart. If you have to drink, do not drink more than two drinks a day. Binge drinking is particularly hard on the heart.

Take the following nutritional supplements:
Co Q10 - 120 to 360 milligrams of coenzyme Q10 a day, taken in doses of no more than 180 milligrams at a time.
Magnesium 400 milligrams/day
Selenium 50-200 micrograms/day
Vitamin E 400 international units/day

Limit strenuous activities to give a chance for your heart to catch-up. Bedrest may be necessary in some cases.

Caution: Cardiomyopathy is a life-threatening condition. If you suspect you or someone you know is suffering from cardiomyopathy, seek medical assistance immediately.
