1. Can you still take Vitamin C if you are prone to kidney problems?

According to Jo Serrentino, author of "How Natural Remedies Work", there have been cases where vitamin C supplements have provoked kidney stones in both people and animals. This happens because vitamin C may sometimes cause oxalic acid to accumulate. The amount of this acid produced in your body depends on the foods you eat. For instance, a diet high in meats produces a large amount of oxalic acid, which then settles in the kidneys in the form of kidney stones. Warning signs of oxalic acid buildup, before kidney stones form, include sore joints and rheumatic type pain, a pungent body odor, and skin conditions such as eczema.

However, those prone to kidney stones can still take vitamin C supplements, if they take them with vitamin B6. Vitamin B6 helps rid the body of oxalic acid, thereby neutralizing the harmful effects of ascorbic acid. Usually equal amounts of vitamin C and vitamin B6 should be taken, but it is always best to consult an expert for the exact concentrations of supplements that you require.
